Friday 24th - bike **** - Long Two Rivers – Orwell to the Deben including breakfast at Levington – cloudy.

After Michael Galbraith was first to join Levington Marina, we now have to pay £60 to sail on the Orwell but get to use the toilet/showers so with a nice-looking forecast for today we decided to head over for breakfast and then pay. Sadly, when we woke the forecast sunshine had failed to arrive with light drizzle so we had a cuppa and read for a bit. Then with flask made and weetabix packed we left home at 8.30 with a dark menacing sky with some very light rain! We took our tree lined footpath down to Loompit lake which is now covered in thick green weed! At the marina BBQ area, we stopped at the new picnic tables for our breakfast before heading to the office to pay up, being the 2nd to join. We then biked around to the windsurf area where a very large yacht was fitting its brand-new sails and we sat on the bench watching river life. Even with the tide low there was a steady stream of yachts heading out to sea, several Egrets were feeding as was a Curlew and a little grebe. The ropes and bouys in front of the windsurf launch area had been removed :) but the large crane was still blocking our parking and there are still loads of winter boat frames in the way, hopefully they will be moved soon? We left the marina and took the inland route by the railway line, again seeing a yellow hammer, then back at Blofield Track we saw a muntjac before turning left where they are building a gun club with huge earth moving going on coming out on Trimley High Street. Mag then heads for home while I turn left into Gulpher Lane to Marsh lane taking some nice moody shoots of the delict house before coming out on the River Deben path! After my usual walk around Felixstowe Ferry boat I head out past the sailing club and the area is very busy! Past the golf club continuing down to The Fludgers along the prom and up Bent Hill. I then rode through the main street to check how many were wearing masks and was pleased to see most people sporting them:) So despite the lack of sunshine today we still had a nice ride being out for 4hrs. 15 mins covering nearly 20 miles. Some wind coming for the weekend, fingers crossed we avoid the rain tomorrow, just have to pick some venues, I fancy a foil at Point Clear on Saturday and perhaps Levington on Sundy?
